Mountain Parks Electric ends fiscal year by donating more than $80,000 to locals in need
In 2017, Mountain Parks Electric (MPE), through its Operation Round Up program, donated $80,646 to local non-profits and individuals in need. These funds were awarded to 45 individuals and 21 organizations throughout the MPE service area for health and medical costs, housing assistance, community programs and education.
“We don’t just provide electricity,” said Stacie Dellamano, MPE Manager of Accounting and Finance. “We live in this community too, and care deeply about it. Through this program, Mountain Parks Electric and its members are turning community concern into something meaningful, simply by donating what amounts to a pocketful of change every month.”
Since 1999, MPE, through Operation Round Up, has allowed its members the option of rounding up their electric bill to the next whole dollar. More than 50 percent of MPE’s members (11,043 in all) contribute to this program. This money is collected and earmarked by a volunteer board toward local non-profit organizations and individuals in financial need. The average yearly donation per contributor is $7. All contributions are tax deductible. Since the program’s inception, Operation Round Up has raised $1.12 million in donations and distributed $1.11 million to local non-profits and individuals faced with extraordinary financial circumstances beyond their control.
