Tree Removal Requests

Each year, MPE receives many requests from its members regarding trees believed to be a danger to power lines and/or homeowners' secondary electric service. In response, MPE's operation department generates service orders to evaluate each situation. These evaluations generally are resolved within two weeks of being reported. MPE reserves the right to refuse to cut or remove any trees that do not pose a danger to MPE's facilities.

If a tree is found to pose a safety hazard or danger to MPE's facilities, MPE will trim or remove the tree at no cost to the member. The slash will be left on site, and the larger pieces will be cut into manageable pieces and also left on site. MPE will not remove the material.

If the tree is not in danger of falling on the power line, MPE will encourage the member to hire a professional tree contractor to remove the tree at the homeowner's expense. MPE will drop the secondary power line for the member at no charge in order for them to safely cut the tree. The MPE operations department encourages members to schedule an appointment 24-48 hours in advance to have the secondary power line dropped.
