Program
MPEI sells 14-watt CFLs which have the same light output as 60-watt incandescent bulb. MPEI also sells 20-watt (75-watt equivalents) and 23-watt (100-watt equivalents in the near future). Facts about CFLs:
- CFLs use 75 percent less energy than standard bulbs
- CFLs last up to 9,000 hours
- CFLs pay for themselves in about 7 months and then save you money thereafter. In otherwords, you will pay more for a CFL, but in seven months (based on an average usage of 4 hours per day) you save enough energy to compensate for the higher purchase price.

| Assuming all CFLs were installed, 1,169.11 kilowatts were not added to (or conserved if retrofitted) MPEI's system. MPEI pays Tri-State a $20.56 demand charge per kW on its power bill. CFL sales reduce MPEI's purchased power cost, helping MPEI provide affordable rates for its members now and in the future. |
