Basin Electric's Emily McKay engages students with hands-on activities and lively discussion

During the week of January 28, more than 250 students from Fraser, Granby, Grand Lake, and West Grand schools learned about the electric industry from an "insider." Basin Electric Power Cooperative's Emily McKay spent more than 12 hours on the road, traveling all the way from Bismarck, ND to give kids the skinny on where electricity comes from. Her 45-minute program also included electric safety tips, the process of electric generation and types of natural resources. The presentation, which was coordinated by MPEI,left them wanting more, as indicated in the following 4th - 6th graders' letters of thanks:

Dear MPEI,

That fun stuff you taught us was awesome! I think you inspired me to work at MPEI. Thanks for teaching us about safety. It was really fun.

Dear MPEI,

Thank you for letting us experience the wonder of electricity. Who knew that electricity came from coal? I never knew that there were such big wires ...

Dear MPEI,

... I loved shocking my friend with that electric ball, and when I sat next to my other friend, I shocked her. I would never shock someone to hurt them ...
