Tracking your energy usage is as easy as checking out a book or DVD from your local library. A Kill-O-Watt monitor empowers you to save dollars on electric bills by learning which appliances are costing you the most. Mountain Parks Electric, Inc. (MPEI) donated Kill-O-Watt monitors to each of the libraries in our service territory (Grand & Jackson County). They are available for check out with your library card for a period of three weeks---plenty of time to learn what appliances, computers, and heaters are using. It’s a win-win for MPEI, the Library Districts and most importantly our customer/members. Grand County Library District Executive Director Mary Anne Wilcox is quoted, “We are very excited to have the Kill-O-Watt monitor in our libraries because it meets the needs of the community, and that is what we strive for in our library. It’s another valuable library program added to the already existing MP3, DVD, CD and musical equipment check outs for our customers.” Kathy Humrich, Executive Director of Jackson County Library District said, “You have no idea how much this will do for our community, especially for our senior citizens who often times use space heaters and keep their old appliances forever when they could be saving energy and $’s. What a great gift to our library and our community.” Members who have used Kill-A-Watt monitors before found that by unplugging appliances or electronics that are not being used has reduced their energy consumption. It’s a great opportunity to make energy efficient changes now before the winter comes and--it’s as easy as checking out a book or DVD from the library!
