With power costs continuing to escalate, many consumers are becoming more energy-efficient - using CFL light bulbs and LED lights, caulking windows and doors and using weather-stripping. Not only are consumers reducing the cost of their montly electric bill, but they are also making things easier on the environment.
There is one more thing that can really help: conserving energy during "peak hours". Peak hours are whent wholesale power costs are at a premium - 5:30 AM - noon and 4:30 PM - 10:30 PM October through March AND 7:00 AM - 10 PM April through September. Any amount of electricity conserved during these hours reduces MPEI's wholesale power bill, minimizing expenses and increasing margins.
Why are margins important? As a not-for-profit energy provider, MPEI issues patronage capital for margins that it earns.
If a significant portion of MPEI's customers conserve during these hours, it may even help reduce the impact of future rate increases.
To help consumers remember these hours, MPEI is offering a free refrigerator magnet (photo above) for its members. Simply stop in at the Granby or Walden office to pick one up.
