By now you are all wondering what the rate increase will be on your electric bill effective January 1, 2008. In our past issues, we notified you that the Board of Directors for Mountain Parks Electric met in October and November to discuss the impact Tri-State Generation & Transmission’s wholesale power rate increase would have on our members.

The Board of Directors’ preliminary review of management proposals took place prior to its November 28th board meeting. The proposal called for the per kWh charge for residential Rate 1 and small commercial Rate 4 classifications to increase from 7.6 cents to 8.6 cents per kWh, as well as the availability increase from $25 to $26, based upon 4% inflation. The proposal is designed to be a 10% revenue increase. Individual rate increases experienced by our customers will depend upon their rate schedule, usage patterns and the energy (kWh) and demand (kWh) components of their bills (if demand metered). Final action by the Board took place at its November board meeting.

Because the monthly Colorado Country Life (CCL) publication must be submitted to our editors a month in advance, we are not able to use the December issue of CCL to inform you of the rate increases determined at the board meeting held on November 28th. There are a number of ways that you may access the rate schedule after November 30th. We ask your indulgence in the timing of this advice and hope that the following methods will be fair and convenient for you.

The proposed percentage of rate increase will have appeared in the legal section of the Grand County Newspaper and the Jackson County Star the week of November 26, 2007. The rate schedule will be posted on our website www.mpei.com. Rate schedules will be available in both the Walden and Granby MPEI offices. Our customer service representatives will send you a rate schedule on request. A complete rate schedule will also be included in the January issue of Colorado Country Life. For any questions you may have regarding this notice, please call us at 970-887-3378.
