There are a number of ways you can reduce your energy bill in the coming months. While Mountain Parks Electric is working hard to minimize the impact the effects a price increase will have on you, here are some easy ways for you to take advantage of some extra savings right away.

Change incandescent light bulbs (based on 4 hours per day use) to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs)
You can save approximately $7 per month on your electric bill by replacing the ten most frequently used 100-watt light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).

Energy audits by trained professionals
Certified professional energy auditors provide energy audits that may include blower door tests, thermographic scans and PFT air infiltration measuring techniques. Before the energy auditor visits your house, make a list of any existing problems. This information is a valuable tool for the energy auditor when analyzing your home to uncover simple ways to reduce your household’s energy consumption. Information on weatherization programs are available by visiting the Department of Energy’s website at www.eere.energy.gov which also lists certified energy auditing services available in Colorado.

Implement energy efficiency improvements and activities in your home
Often, relatively simple things like putting plastic over your windows in the winter, purchasing a certain furnace (if you are in the market for a new one), and turning the thermostat down a notch or two, can add up to big savings. We’re happy to share some of these cost-saving ideas with you. Manage your activities to fall within the off-peak load periods of Noon to 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 pm. to 5:30 p.m. By doing so, it keeps our wholesale power costs down.

Switch to budget billing and/or automatic payment options
When bitter winter conditions cause heating bills to rise, spread those costs out over several months with our budget-billing program. Budget billing can be a helpful way for you to effectively plan and balance your energy spending. And, you can also have your energy payments automatically withdrawn each month fro an account you designate. This not only can save you money, but also time each month!

These are just a few ways you can save money. We’d like to visit with you about other options that may be worth considering. Give us a call at 970-887-3378 and let us get to work for you!
