Whether you need a generator (e.g. to power life-support equipment) or
simply enjoy its convenience, safety and regular maintenance are
essential. Guidelines you should follow when using your generator:

Space Heaters

Use heavy-duty extension cords properly rated for your space heater.
Do not use space heaters near showers, bathtubs or sinks.
Keep space heaters at least three feet away from drapes, furniture and other flammable items.
Buy heaters with an automatic shut-off feature (which activates if the unit is tipped over).

¬  Turn off the main power switch or breaker before
     using a generator

¬  Plug appliances directly into the generator, but
don't overload it; overloading = fire hazard

¬  Do not wire the generator into your home's
    electrical system
unless there is a transfer means
to keep the utility power separate from the generator      power. The generator could feed power
back into utility ines while power crews work to
restore electric service, putting their lives at risk!

¬  Avoid spilling gasoline or other fuels on hot
     components
and never refuel while it is running

¬  Provide ample ventilation and air-cooling to
prevent overheating and exposure to exhaust fumes
