Request for Infected Tree Cutting and Hold Harmless Provision

1.  When a property owner reports dead trees the following information is needed:

  • Who owns the property where the trees are located? MPEI has received request for tree
removal on property not owned by the person reporting the trees.
  • Are the trees marked? MPEI prefers red paint or a red ribbon.
  • If the trees are not marked when will they be marked?
  • How can you be contacted to schedule a meeting “if needed” with a MPEI representative?

2.   The MPEI area superintendent will schedule a job site survey and do the following:

    • Determine whether the trees marked by the landowner are a threat to MPEI overhead
      high voltage or secondary lines.
    • Check access to the marked trees and determine what equipment and manpower is
needed to cut the trees down.
    • Contact landowner.

      A.  Explain MPEI’s Tree Cutting Guidelines and deliver a copy of the Guidelines to
the owner or the owner’s representative with the attached signature page.

      B.  If trees are to be cut, obtain from the owner or owner’s representative a signed
Request for Infected Tree Cutting and Indemnification Provision.

      C.   Schedule a date that the trees will be cut

3.   MPEI will cut down trees that are a threat to high voltage lines on private property but MPEI
will not be responsible for the removal, stacking brush or bucking up and stacking logs. The
owner is encouraged to promptly remove the cut trees and brush to lessen fire danger.

4.   For safety reasons, only MPEI personnel will be allowed in the cutting area during the tree-
       cutting operation.

5.   MPEI will not cut trees that are a threat to low voltage secondary service and also a threat to
       the buildings those lines serve.

      • MPEI will advise the landowner to hire a professional tree cutter to cut down the tree(s).
      • MPEI will “during regular business hours” disconnect the secondary service attached to
the building to allow for tree clearing. MPEI will reconnect the secondary service “ during
regular business hours” after the trees have been cleared.
      • There will be no charge to disconnect and reconnect the service if done during regular
        business hours.
      • Work must be scheduled with MPEI’s area superintendent at least 3 working days in
        advance.
      • There will be a service charge of $58 per man-hour plus vehicle expense if work is not
        completed during regular businesses hours.
